There are 15 Hurts Donut Co. shops around the country, but the one in Middleton is the furthest East, and let me tell you... This place is EXCELLENT. From their killer donuts to the hilarity on their Facebook and in their shop, I love everything about Hurts.
My dad brought me my first Hurts donuts, so I knew I had to go back for myself and blog. I went back in December and met my old boss up there before Christmas shopping in Madison (Middleton is a suburb of Madison).
There are two huge cases lined with every kind of donut you could ever imagine – from cheesecake to pink lemonade. I, of course, ordered more than I should have and ate the blueberry one before I even left. I knew I liked that one and could write about it from memory, but I waited to taste the rest until I got home.
I think my family likes this adventure of mine almost more than I do because my sister-in-law Savannah was eager to help me taste test this time, though she only tried a few.
Vanilla Frosted – You should know by now that I can't turn down a cake donut that's covered in vanilla frosting and loaded with sprinkles. Hurts' version was SO GOOD. The more sprinkles, the better, and they delivered. Their vanilla cake had such delicious flavor, too. It was sweet, but not too sweet and balanced well with the sugary frosting/sprinkles.
Peanut Butter Cup – Can you go wrong with a donut that's covered in chocolate frosting and peanut butter cups? No, no, you cannot. The frosting was delicious and peanut butter cups are my favorite candy, so I was a fan. The chocolate cake was okay, but with toppings like that, I don't think the cake would ever be in the spotlight, so it was not a problem.
Mint Oreo – Mint ice cream with Oreos is one of my favorite flavors, so I was really excited to try this one. It was exactly what I thought it would be: deeeeeelicious. The chocolate cake donut tasted better than in the PB Cup, the mint frosting was light and the Oreos pulled the whole thing together.
Apple Pie Cheesecake – I prefer cake donuts to yeast, but Hurts makes a good yeast donut. It was dense, which I liked. Although, the Apple Pie Cheesecake donut was very rich, the cream cheese frosting was delightful. The pie filling was a little too sweet for my liking, so overall it wasn't my favorite donut.
Oreo Cheesecake – Another yeast donut, another cheesecake. The cheesecake filling was delicious and I love Oreos, but there were a few too many graham crackers on top. I was just a little underwhelmed.
Circus Animal – Do you remember the circus animal cookies that were covered in pink or white frosting and sprinkles? I could eat the entire bag of those and I could eat an entire box of these donuts. There were so many sprinkles!!! I love Hurts' vanilla cake. It's probably one of my favorites.
Jesus – Basically a churro donut, this was one of my favorites from the visit. It was vanilla cake with plenty of vanilla frosting, cinnamon and sugar, and a caramel drizzle. I could eat a million of these babies. I wish I had a solo photo of this donut because it would definitely go on My Favs. Oh well, guess I need to go back!
Chocolate Frosted – It was essentially the vanilla frosted only chocolate. There were plenty of sprinkles and that chocolate frosting is to die for, but it was too much chocolate for me to eat the whole thing. I still liked it, though!
Brownie – Did you ever get a Cosmic Brownie in your lunch as a kid? Or do you put them in your kid's lunch now? This donut tastes identical to a brownie and the chocolate chip sprinkles take it to the next level. It's a brownie lover's dream.
Blueberry Streusel – This is my all-time favorite from Hurts. The blueberry cake was to die for and the glaze and streusel on top sweeten it just enough. I cannot rave enough about it.
Blueberry Streusel (duh)
I really think you need to go try all of these for yourself, and also try ones that I haven't had yet because there are SO MANY options. I'm already planning my next trip because I need another Jesus donut and want to do another blog on Hurts.
10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND
